Iceland Day 3: Skógar Campsite to Skaftafell

Day 3 (May 16):

The morning gifted us with a bit of fog, and were were soon out by the falls taking photos.

After breakfast by the falls, we headed up the Fimmvorduhals Trail, which led us to Hestavaðsfoss, Fosstorfufoss, and Steinbogafoss. There were many more beyond Steinbogafoss, but we turned back soon after. The hike was 2.44 miles with 531′ of gain.

We broke camp and continued slightly east to Kvernufoss, where we enjoyed a short 1.17 mile, 260′ hike.

Then it was on to lunch and a view at the Reynisdrangar Cliffs.

A rocky cliff covered with grass rises above a black sand beach, partially obscured by fog.

As day into a just as bright evening, we explored the two million year old Fjaðrárgljúfur (canyon) and Mögáfoss. (1.53 miles, 231′)

We ended our night at the Skaftafell Campsite in Vatnajökull National Park, where we would spend two nights. This campsite had good showers and a plug I could bring my devices back to life with.
