Iceland Day 4: Glaciers & Waterfalls

May 17: We slept in a bit and I enjoyed a lazy morning reading The Only Kayak, A Journey into the Heart of Alaska. In the afternoon, we signed up for a glacier hike with Melrakki Adventures, and as we were the only two signed up, we had a private tour of the glacier, led by the wonderful Javi (https://www.instagram.com/javientures/). Javi was amazing and challenged us more than I wanted to be challenged, and it was well worth it to get to see the amazing glacier up close. Highly recommend seeking him out at Skaftafell. While only 1.5 miles and 332′ of gain, it sure was harder work than those stats would indicate.

That evening, we hiked up from our campsite to Svartifoss and Hundafoss (2.51 miles, 452′) before enjoying not having to set-up camp. I enjoyed having plenty of time to admire the falls.
