Iceland Day 6: Still Chasing Waterfalls

Day 6 (May 19): Today, we skipped a bit of the ring road and opted for the scenic gravel Road 939 to Route 95, which we found to be a great choice. Our first waterfall today was the 65′ Follaldafoss.

After shooting that waterfall, we continued down Road 939, stopping at several more falls.

We then found ourselves at Hænubrekkufoss, which drops 165′ over three drops, where we stopped for an extended shoot.

We closed out our drive of Road 939 at another waterfall and continued on Route 95, catching a few nice reflections along the way. We had to stop at Foss, which seemed to us to be a pretty basic name for an impressive set of falls.

Back on Route 1, we had to shoot Rjúkandafoss.

Our next detour from the Ring Road was a journey around the Diamond Circle, a scenic drive in northern Iceland. We made this detour so that we could visit Dettifoss, a waterfall in Vatnajökull National Park, reputed to be the most powerful waterfall in Europe. Measuring 45 meters tall and 100 meters wide, with 200 cubic meters of water per second plunging over the edge.

Nearby is the also impressive Selfoss, which drops 10 meters.

A scenic view of a river flowing between rocky cliffs, with a waterfall cascading in the distance under a clear blue sky.

Continuing on, we took in views of the Norwegian Sea before arriving at 66.12 North Camping, where we camped at the edge of the sea.
